The Email Marketing System: An Overview
As with any new system that is being implemented in a restaurant, email marketing can be difficult to jumpstart. Here are a few time-tested principles that should help you start off quickly and efficiently. Right off the bat, you must create and implement several email collection strategies. Why? Because without a list of email addresses collected from guests, email marketing is a waste of time. Some of the more popular methods include a glass bowl at the front door, a slip of paper in the check-presenter and an email form posted on your web site. At a minimum, you should use a small slip of paper inserted into the Check-presenter. It works like this: Your server presents the check and says something to this effect, “We would love to maintain communication with you. We have included a small slip of paper with the check. If you are interested, please write down your name and e-mail address and we'll send you regular updates. Thank you for coming in!” The guest writes down their name and email address and leaves it with your server. The server then places it in a box next to the POS and over the course of several nights, the box fills up. You take a box of names and e-mail addresses and mail them to Spillover.
